FDA / FSMA

Many Italian producers would like to export to the United States but few realize that the marketing and sale of food products and specialties in the United States is subject to the regulation of products and ingredients: label changes, nutritional table preparation, a list of allergens and the admissibility of all ingredients.

Then there is the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA), the US food safety regulations signed by Barack Obama on January 4, 2011 with the goal of protecting public health by guaranteeing greater safety of food types through strict regulations that control both the food production processes and their release onto the market.

Specifically, producers must implement safety and preventive control programs in accordance with the new guidelines of the Food and Drug Administration, the US government agency responsible for regulating foodstuffs sold on the US market.
